The 2024/25 season Conway Corridor’s Sunday Live performance sequence opens on 15 September 2024 when the Zoffany Ensemble returns to the corridor with a programme that mixes the unique nonet model of Brahms’ Serenade No. 1 with a chamber model of Richard Strauss’ Til Eulenspiegel and the Septet by the nineteenth century French composer Adolphe Blanc.
The season continues with pianist Patrick Hemmerlé in a programme that strikes from Bach and Beethoven, to Albeniz’s Iberia, Granados’ Goyescas and Spanish-inspired actions from Debussy’s Préludes. Then horn participant Ben Goldscheider joins the Heath Quartet for a an enchanting programme which incorporates horn quintets by Mozart and York Bowen, together with Eleanor Alberga’s The Shining Gate of Morpheus for horn quintet. The sequence creative director, pianist Simon Callaghan, joins the Brompton Quartet for a programme of Haydn, Grażyna Bacewicz and Dvorak, and there’s a pre-concert recital from the Tondo Duo (Sophia Elger, saxophone, Declan Hickey, guitar). The Gildas Quartet can be mixing issues up with William Alwyn and Jessie Montgomery alongside Haydn and Debussy.
As a part of the Bloomsbury Pageant, Darragh Morgan (violin) and Mary Dullea (piano) discover themes of ‘human’ qualities and ‘kindness’ of their programme of Arvo Pärt, Deirdre McKay, Hannah Kendall, Evis Sammoutis, Chick Corea and César Franck. The Autumn sequence ends on 15 December 2024 when the Primrose Piano Quartet transfer from a duo by Mozart to a trio by Schubert to a piano quartet by Brahms.
I write the programme notes for the live performance sequence, and provides occasional pre-concert talks. My subsequent one is on Sunday 8 December, with Previous, current and future, trying on the music of Caroline Shaw, Schumann and Beethoven prematurely of the Kyan Quartet’s live performance.
