The 18th-century fashion splendour of Sledmere Home in Yorkshire is the setting for a Spring season of live shows showcasing younger artists. Rising Stars at Sledmere options three live shows in April and Could, adopted by two live shows within the autumn and a particular Christmas celebration. The live shows happen within the Library, one of many 18th century rooms recreated within the early years of the twentieth century following a disastrous hearth.

The season opens on 27 April with 21-year-old British/American violinist, Theo Elwes and Japanese pianist Kumi Matsuo in an Jap European-inspired programme  with music by Bartok, Bloch, and Mieczysław Weinberg. Theo Elwes is the good, nice grandson of the tenor Gervase Elwes (1866-1921) in whose reminiscence the Assist Musicians fund (previously Musicians’ Benevolent Fund) was initially established following his untimely dying in a railroad accident in 1921.

On 12 Could, The Avalon Trio, comprising three younger British gamers, Benji Lock (piano), Louis Solon (violin) and Sebastian Williams (cello), in Rachmaninoff’s Trio Elegiaque No. 1 and Schubert’s Piano Trio No. 1.  Lastly, the Spring collection ends on 25 Could with a recital from soprano Alexandra Lowe and pianist Patrick Milne, in French music with textual content impressed by Greece, the Center East and Alexandra’s nation of beginning, Spain, together with Ravel, Bizet, Debussy and Viardot.

The recitals are at lunchtime and the ticket value contains lunch and entry to the parkland, gardens and farm park; full particulars from the Sledmere Home web site.
